Course Description:
This webinar will review the latest American Heart Association scientific statement on the relationship between periodontal disease and ASCVD, highlighting the oral–systemic connection and how inflammation and disease in the mouth can influence cardiovascular health. The session will also provide an overview of the Healthy Smiles, Healthy Hearts™ initiative and expand on science‑focused content from the most recent webinar. Participants will learn how medical and dental teams can apply this evidence in practice to support early identification, education, and referral.
Objectives:
1. Describe the evidence linking periodontal disease, oral inflammation, and ASCVD.
2. Explain how oral inflammation and bacteria can affect cardiovascular health, including pathways involving systemic inflammation and bacteremia.
3. Identify clinical implications for screening, education, and care coordination across medical and dental settings.
